The Small Print

This agreement

 

Once a reservation is made, the guest has entered into a binding contract with The Old Newsagents and these terms and conditions apply in full. Where a company, agency or similar has made the booking on behalf of the guest, the agreement is with that third party. Third parties should ensure that the guests are aware of these terms and conditions. This agreement applies for all bookings.

Deposits are non-refundable.

 

Cancellations

 

In respect of all cancellations we will try to be as flexible as possible and will first try to re book your stay with us at a future convenient date.

If you cancel after you have paid the balance of your stay, usually between 4-6 weeks prior to your arrival we will endeavour to refund you 50% of your stay.

Cancellations made between 14 and 7 days prior to arrival will receive a 25% refund.

Cancellations made within 7 days prior to your arrival will be charged in full. We are usually unable to rebook these short notice vacancies and would kindly advise you ensure you have travel insurance for such eventualities.

 

Covid-19 Cancellations

 

We are guided by the NHS and government policy in respect of this. Please see this link

If you are unable to travel due to Covid this is now a matter between you and your travel insurance. Please see our general policy on cancellations above.

 

Our Responsibilities

 

The Old Newsagents undertakes to provide short term accommodation, suitable for a holiday or business trip, comprising the exclusive use of the entire property, for the dates agreed in the reservation.

 

Arrivals and Departures

 

You can check in at The Old Newsagents from 15.00 pm. We ask that guests have vacated by 10.00 am.

 

Your Booking

 

Your booking is as contracted for the number of nights.

We have a minimum booking period of 2 nights.

 

Children

 

Children are welcome to stay at The Old Newsagents however we kindly remind guests that this is an old property with fixtures and fittings becoming the age of the property which are not readily replaced. We will seek financial recovery for any breakages or damage to the walls, furniture, fixtures and/or fittings caused by children (or adults). We reserve the right send an invoice for the amount to the registered address.

 

Behaviour

 

Please remember that while you have the exclusive use of The Old Newsagents during your stay, you are the custodian of the property during your stay. The guests who follow you rely on your respectful and responsible use of the house. Please also be aware of local residents, and indeed other visitors to Alnwick when arriving late or leaving early.

We do not tolerate racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise discriminatory language or behaviour.

 

Payment

 

When you book, is preferred that you make a payment directly by BACS. We will take a deposit for up to 1/3 of the cost of your stay, with the balance due 4 weeks prior to your arrival. If the balance is not settled within 7 days of your arrival we reserve the right to cancel your booking, deposit non-refundable in those circumstances.

The Old Newsagents can accept payment by credit or debit card via SumUp, however this is not preferred.

 

Complaints

 

In the event of a complaint, we will investigate and respond in a timely and courteous manner. Where appropriate, we will make immediate amends.

 

Housekeeping, Guests’ Liabilities

 

The Old Newsagents is strictly no smoking accommodation. If it comes to our attention that there has been smoking in the property we reserve the right to charge you an additional cleaning fee of £100 per night that you are in the property, and will provide you with an invoice for this to the registered address for the booking.

Similarly the hygiene and cleanliness of any mattresses which are compromised by urine, faecal matter or spilt alcohol will require to be replaced following which we will provide you with an invoice for this to the registered address for the booking.

 

We reserve the right to charge guests the cost of rectifying damage, caused by the deliberate, negligent or reckless act of the guest to our property or structure. Should this damage come to light after the guest has departed, we reserve the right to send an invoice for the amount to the registered address. The Old Newsagents is a prestige property with bespoke fixtures and fittings which reflect the age and character of the property. Some items cannot be replaced easily and we reserve the right to charge you the market rate for any breakages.

 

We reserve the right to charge guests the cost of replacing any items that are removed from the premises by them without consent. The charge will be the full replacement amount of the missing item, including any carriage charges. Should the fact that the item is missing come to light after the guest has departed, we reserve the right to send an invoice for the amount to the registered address.

 

We reserve the right to take action against any guest found to have tampered or interfered with any fire detection equipment throughout the Guest House, including detector heads in public areas and bedrooms, break glass points and fire extinguishers. Guests found to have tampered with any fire detection or firefighting equipment will be charged with any costs incurred by the hotel due to their actions and additionally may be asked to leave the hotel. Should the fact that firefighting or detection equipment had been tampered with come to light after the guest has departed, we reserve the right send an invoice for the amount to the registered address.

 

Do not eat fast food in the bedrooms or lounge.

Replacement keys are charged at £25.00 each.

Guests who require a locksmith to re-enter the building will be sent and invoice for the cost of this service.

We will use our best efforts to return any items left behind by a guest after their stay however lost property will not be kept for longer than 7 days if unclaimed.

 

Pets

 

For the comfort of other guests, The Old Newsagents does not allow pets. If you have a registered assistance dog, please inform us prior to booking.

 

Security

 

Please ensure that the front door of the property is closed and locked at all times that you are not using it.  We request that all guests follow this safety and security measure.

We strongly advise guests to use the key safe on the front of the property to ensure that they do not lock themselves out of the property.

 

Fire Safety

 

The Old Newsagents is fitted with smoke alarms and has appropriate fire safety equipment in the kitchens. There is one main entrance and three additional exits from the property in the case of an emergency.

 

Data Protection

 

The Old Newsagents retains your contact details as an integral part of the booking process. We are required to retain your registration for a year. We will not share your information in any other way with any third party.

We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Register of Data Controllers.

 

Any email and files/attachments transmitted to us by email are confidential and are intended solely for the use of The Old Newsagents.

 

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679, we have a legal duty to protect any information we collect from you. Information contained in this email and any attachments may be privileged or confidential and intended for the exclusive use of the original recipients.

 

We will not pass your personal data to any other third party.

 

Recovery of Losses

 

In the event of damage or breakages and losses as set out in any of the paragraphs above we reserve the right to send an invoice to your registered address. We will seek recovery for any invoices which are not settled within 21 days
